Maryland Announces Expanded Use of Traffic Cameras

Annapolis, MD- With the endorsement of the Maryland State Police, state legislators have passed a bill permitting wider use of traffic light, speed, and permanent, stationary cameras, including surveillance of high-risk traffic areas and neighborhoods, effective immediately.  Civil rights groups and advocates of personal privacy have filed lawsuits challenging the new law.  Supporters of the measure cite growing violence in Baltimore City and County and the successful reduction of reckless driving from the past use of the cameras.
