Rapid Apple Decline Worries East Coast Farmers

Associated Press- Orchards of apple trees from New York to North Carolina are dying in periods of less than a month due to what is being referred to as Rapid (or Sudden) Apple Decline, in which the tree withers and dies in a matter of weeks.  Orchards across northern West Virginia, and near Burkettsville, Maryland and Harrisonburg, Virginia have been hit especially hard.  The cause for this blight has not yet been determined.

At the current rate of losses, apple prices could double in 2018.
